Buddha
JASPER, QUARTZ, ROSE QUARTZ, CLAY, AMETHYST, TURQUOISE, ABALONE, BONE, HAWAIIAN SHELLS, BLACK ONYX, AND SOUTHERN ILLINOIS BROKEN ARROWHEAD.
A hard piece to name at first, but eventually the name, like a brick in the head off the Sears Tower, came to me and stuck. The green Brazilian agate that holds the face will present a cool yin-yang pattern when flipped over. From the front, the viewer can see how the mouth is centered directly behind the yin-yang pattern. The piece also blends the contradictory imagery of fierce and mellow, intimidating and pleasant all into one piece. The right eye swings like a free spirit, while the left eye is a large, tumbled rose quartz with purple amethyst for its center. The outline of the eye itself is layered with more rose quartz and black coral that
make up the eyelashes. The piece also contains an abalone eyebrow. Lastly and most importantly, Buddha’s third eye is dead center where I painstakingly set a multifaceted quartz / disco ball in a shell cup with silver without using any glue. The third eye is surrounded by amethyst and rose quartz. A one of a kind, spiritual mask.
